Tracey Welcomes Funding to Support Weekly Bin Collections in Medway

Tracey has welcomed Medway Council’s successful bid for Government funding, which will enable the council to offer weekly recycling collections. The funding awarded to Medway Council from the Weekly Collection Support Scheme is just over 14 million pounds.
The increased service, offering weekly collections of recycling and organic waste as well as general waste, will come into effect in summer 2013. Weekly household waste collections will continue as usual.

The Weekly Collections Support Scheme follows on from the Government’s announcement last year, which pledged to work with local councils to increase the frequency and quality of rubbish collections and make it easier to recycle, and to tackle measures which encourage councils specifically to cut the scope of collection.
