Tracey recently attended the 2012 KM Walk to School Awards to reward pupils, schools and parents for their participation in a variety of Walk to School initiatives. Tracey presented certificates to those from Medway who have made walking to school part of their weekly routine.
According to the Department for Transport, the amount of children travelling to school by car has doubled over the past 20 years. However, initiatives such as the “Walking Bus” and “Walk Once a Week” have removed approximately 230,000 car journeys from Kent’s roads.
Tracey says: “I was delighted to present this year’s Walk to School Awards to those in Medway who are active participants in this fantastic scheme. Walking to school promotes a healthy lifestyle, improves a child’s concentration and reduces our carbon footprint.”
