Tracey Hosts Successful Pensioners Advice and Information Fair

Monday, 3 August, 2015

On Friday 24th July Tracey hosted her first Medway Pensioners Advice and Information Fair between 10am and 2pm at the Bishop of Rochester Academy in Chatham.

Tracey invited all pensioners, their families, friends and carers to attend this free event which aimed to share information and advice about the local services, support and activities available locally.

There were over 60 organisations to take a stall at this event, including Active Retirement Associations, Care Groups, Medway Community HealthTrust, Seniors Forums, Arriva, Kent Fire & Rescue, Leisure Centres, Citizens Advice, Royal Voluntary Service, Rambling Groups, Charities and many more! The school was kindly gifted for use by the Bishop of Rochester Academy and there was also tea and coffee for all visitors, kindly provided by Councillor Mike Franklin. a full list of all exhibitors is atached below.

Recognising that with a little extra support older people can live well and provide an outstanding contribution to the community, Tracey is committed to taking a proactive approach. She said:

“As a local MP I receive a significant number of requests each day from older people relating to a wide range of issues and am committed to taking a proactive approach. It is upsetting that so many constituents come to me for help only when their position becomes a crisis, so it is my aim with the Information Fairs to ensure Pensioners are aware of the various local services available to them and how I may be in a position to assist them to continue to play an active role in the community with the support that allows them to do so. With the support of the Bishop of Rochester Academy and Councillor Mike Franklin and all organisations taking part at no cost, this was a real example of the community coming together to provide that support! My huge thanks to all involved for allowing me to make it happen!

This is the second time Tracey has run such an event but the first one in Medway, she hopes it was beneficial to older residents, providing them with useful information and was hugely encouraged by the incredible turnout with over 400 constituents popping along on the day!
