Today Tracey was delighted to receive a letter from the Secretary of State for Education, Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, and the Minister of State for Schools, the Rt Hon David Laws MP, detailing funding that has been awarded to schools in the constituency. The funding awards are part of two projects set up by this Government to ensure that our children are being educated in the best learning environment possible.
The first of the two awards, the second stage of the Priority School Building Programme, covers 277 schools across the country. The award means that over a six year period starting in 2015, the conditioning needs in one or more of these school’s buildings will be addressed in order to tackle those in the very worst of states. In an extremely competitive application process, St John Fisher Catholic Comprehensive School in Chatham has been successful. I would like to congratulate all those who helped to submit such a strong application.
The second award is to help fund the improvement and maintenance of our schools. The funding will go towards creating a learning environment which is safe and fit for purpose. For the first time the funding will cover three years allowing schools the certainty they need to effectively plan and distribute this investment in the best possible manner. With 28 of the schools in the Chatham and Aylesford constituency receiving a variance of this award. Tracey said “I am excited by the progress that can be made with these awards. Education is extremely important in our early years and I am delighted that the Government is helping to ensure that the children in our local schools will have a safe, suitable and sustainable environment for learning.”
