Tracey was joined by Councillors John Balcombe and Dave Smith as she manned a poppy stand during a busy Saturday morning at Sainsbury’s in Aylesford. The trio did a roaring trade for over two hours in support of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
The first ever Poppy Day was held in Britain on 11 November 1921, inspired by the poem “In Flanders Field”, by John McCrae. Since then, the Poppy Appeal has been an integral part of the nation’s calendar.
Tracey says: “It was a real privilege to sell poppies in support of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. With the fantastic support of the British public, there is every expectation that the Legion will beat last year’s efforts and raise a staggering £40 million. I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the armed forces, past and present, for the incredible sacrifices that they have made in the service of our country.”
