Tracey was recently joined by Tom Tugendhat MP in meeting with Kate Thacker and Natalie Tegg of YouCan Youth Cancer Support, a project set up with the aim of providing support to young people whose lives have been impacted by cancer.
YouCan offer a range of support focused on regaining confidence, increasing knowledge of the role of nutrition and fitness in improving and protecting health, art and music therapy and encouraging peer interaction and friendship.
Tracey and Tom pledged their support for YouCan and the role they play in Kent.
Natalie Tegg, Head of Fundraising at YouCan said “It was great to have the chance to meet with Tracey and Tom and tell them more about YouCan - Youth Cancer Support and especially it's work with young people recovering from cancer and the benefits of exercise. There is evidence to show that exercising can have real benefit not only in aiding recovery but reducing the chances of a recurrence for some types of cancer. YouCan would like to thank both Tracey and Tom for their support on this important issue”.
Tom Jenkins, aged 24 with Stage 2b Hodgkin’s Lymphoma said “YouCan have provided me with great support in my post-treatment recovery, providing complementary therapies and other activities to help me come to terms with my new life. This kind of support may seem so simple, but to me it was absolutely invaluable.”
Tracey Crouch MP said: “It was fantastic to meet with YouCan Youth Charity alongside my neighbouring colleague, Tom Tugendhat MP, and hear about their fantastic work in providing support to young cancer patients aged between 10-30 in Kent. While there are undoubtedly a number of fantastic cancer charities in our area, it is great to see that YouCan focus upon this age group specifically, which is why I am pleased to give my support for their work and I look forward to working together in the future to raise awareness and help our young people in Kent through the challenges of cancer diagnosis.”
Tom Tugendhat said “I was honoured to meet Natalie and Kate from YouCan. They do vital work in the area for cancer patients. I am delighted to support their important work and would believe that what they offer can provide a real change for those who sadly suffer from the impacts of cancer”
